2010 Old Sacramento Performer Missives Page
Old Town Sacramento 2010 "Time Travel Weekends" Greetings!
You are receiving this special Missive because you responded to our request for interest in last month's Dickens Fair/Red Barn Productions Missive regarding Historic Old Sacramento.... Here are the facts thus far: 1. RED BARN PRODUCTIONS has been asked by the Sacramento History Museum and State Parks to organize a Street Theater program at Old Sacramento this summer. We will have as our 'stage' an 8-square-block beautifully preserved historic district with shaded boardwalks, known as Old Sacramento. Within that we will create one primary 16x12 stage and 7 street theater locations. 2. YOU are invited to become a member of the RED BARN PLAYERS. Everyone who shows up for a full day in costume & character, for mostly walk-around entertaining, will receive a lovely buffet lunch and have fun with us as we turn back the clock on Historic Old Sacramento. RSVP to robert@redbarnproductions.org
(please see item 8 below for FULL cast member benefits).
The entire cast is encouraged to join in the presentation of our signature show "The New Golden Melodeon" (variety show) on the Golden Melodeon Stage once each day. 3. DATES/TIMES:
Free Workshop Program: June 12 & 13 (gathering under the trees at 10 AM outside the Sacramento History Museum, Old Town Sacramento). Workshops are not a requirement of participation IF you have completed Dickens workshops in the past few years. However! There will be lots to learn about the history of the place, the logistics of participation, and it will be an enjoyable ensemble opportunity for us all. ...So please join us!
11-Week Program: Saturdays & Sundays, June 29th to August 29th. 11AM to 5PM. Likely addition: Labor Day Weekend for "Gold Rush Days" where they cover the streets with dirt and ban automobiles and all hell breaks loose! TBD.
4. CASTING: Look for a list of needed characters and theme weekends via email in the next few days. If you have a specialty, i.e., a well developed character & costume, and have not already sent that information along in your first response, please send as much info as you have to robert@redbarnproductions.org. We still have all the information you sent in your first response - more is welcome.
5. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: You do not need to make a multi-weekend commitment. Come join us for meet and greet "on the boards" any days you can. This is a volunteer program, with some nice benefits including the "Player's Buffet" lunch in our private Green Room, each day of the program. Join us! Please RSVP to robert@redbarnproductions.org.
6. EVOLVING project. There will be many opportunities developing that begin with this new project. The Museum and the State Parks folks loved what we did for them at RailFair99 and LOVE what we do at Dickens. They have invited us to help them bring Old Sacramento to life, hopefully developing it into the "Williamsburg of the West." Your creative input is likewise invited and encouraged. 7. PAID POSITIONS/reimbursement of expenses. Musical pass-the-hat is available with approval. Please request this through robert@redbarnproductions.org. We have a few slots in our budget on a rotating basis for per diems for "Theme Characters" and other key roles. This includes fuel reimbursement & vouchers for Amtrak. Please consider coming up at least once as a full volunteer so we can see what you do. Some approval can be done on workshop weekend. Please direct specific questions/ideas/interests to Robert.
8. BENEFITS of becoming a full cast member of the RED BARN PLAYERS:
REQUIREMENT for becoming a full cast member and receiving above benefits (and more): 4 days participation (minimum 20 hours of volunteer time).
9. PARKING. There are two parking lot structures at Old Sacramento. The cheaper one is located at 2nd & I Streets. Click here for info and directions:
http://www.oldsacramento.com/parking.php
Parking for workshops on June 12/13 will not be covered. We hope to have parking passes to hand out by then however.
10. HOW TO FIND US on site: at the Red Barn Productions "Green Room" on the lower level of the Eagle Theater. If the door to the theater is open, go down the stairs from the lobby. If the door is locked, walk around to the back via the big green lawn area and look for the fenced yard entrance at the rear of the building.
11. DIRECTORS for the Red Barn Players thus far are:
12. WE NEED: Green room comfort. All our couches, carpets and comfy chairs are packed deep in our Mare Island warehouse for Dickens. Please let us know if you can lend us any of these items and we will contact you to discuss logistics. Spread the word! (Thanks!) - Kevin
